This story reminds me of my engineer dad who always said ‘Look for the easiest solution first.’ One time a coworker said the lamp I got for his office wasn’t working and he wanted me to take it back . I looked to see if it had a light bulb first. Check. Then I looked to see if it was plugged in. Nope.
