For years she straddled the fence of whether to leave her marriage or to stay.

She felt tiny nudges to move out throughout those years but was too scared to follow them. Her fear — coupled with doubts of how she’d ever make it on her own — kept her stuck.

During this fearful stage, she briefly tested the ground of leaving and met with mental and physical roadblocks. As she secretly researched apartments, guilt for wanting to leave her long-time marriage clouded her mind so she hesitated to tell the landlords about her situation. On top of that, she’d lived in a house for 22 years and had no rental history. The landlords didn’t take her seriously. They rejected her.

She suspected her timidness and indecision made her appear to be a sketchy case. And driven by fear, she didn’t yet trust the nudges.

Questions then plagued her. Would any landlord ever take a chance on her? How could she afford a place of her own? Would she have to move in with her parents? If she did find a place, how would she ever furnish it?
