What’s Your ‘One Thing’ For This Year?
Skip resolutions and ask yourself this question instead
A few months ago, I heard about a couple who sit down every January and instead of talking about their new year’s resolutions, they discuss what their ‘one thing’ is for the year ahead.
What ‘one thing’ do they want to do or accomplish?
Like many new years resolutions, it could certainly involve ramping up exercise or losing those extra holiday pounds. But maybe instead it’s finally attending a concert at Red Rocks or learning to play pickleball. Maybe it’s taking a pottery class or cleaning out the garage. Maybe something as simple as trying a new restaurant every month.
It could be something big and exciting — like a vacation overseas. It could also be something equally as big but less exciting — like finding the help needed to address some difficult personal or marital struggles.
It could be anything. But the point is, the couple decides what their ‘one thing’ is for the year and then together they make plans for it to happen.
When can they fit in that trip? Where do they teach pickleball lessons? How can they find a good therapist?
With cooperation and intentional planning, they make their ‘one thing’ a reality. I think it’s a…
