I just read a post by Jennifer McDougall in which she writes about how the reads and views on her articles on sex far outnumber the ones on other topics. The same thing happens to me when I write a story about my affair.

My reads skyrocket.

I’m not exactly sure why. Is it due to the mystery and secrecy that surrounds affairs? Are people hoping to read some juicy gossip? Or are so many people in the midst of an affair and clambering for information like I was?

I searched high and low to find help. I googled. I discreetly asked a few trusted friends. I checked books out from the library. But I rarely found anything that spoke to my situation and what I was going through. More often than not, I read words with shame-filled and judgmental advice.

Not helpful. I had enough shame on board already. No need to add more to my plate.

Since I wasn’t finding what I needed, I decided to begin processing my thoughts and feelings in word docs privately. Then the idea occurred to me. Maybe all this processing might help someone else. Maybe someone else could benefit from reading my story.
